This week I will facilitate a special online synchronous session for students with regard to preparing for course examinations.
The general study tips that I will recommend are as follows:
Make note of the course outline and learning objectives for each unit.
Prepare revision aids.
Practice recall (check what you know) - Definitions, examples/types, causes, components/steps, reasons.
Rehearse producing quality work under exam conditions (put yourself in a self-test situation).
Tips for answering questions (some possible approaches)
Carefully consider all questions: underline key instruction words, make note of special conditions and subsidiary questions
Write legibly.
Use a pen (walk with a spare, test the pens before the examination day).
Gauge the relative value of questions.
Answer questions you are sure of first.
Leave extra space.
Try to leave time to review.
Weakness/Things to avoid
Poor handwriting.
Writing out the question.
Irrelevant information (pointless definitions, padding, repetition, over-complication).
Failure to understand/interpret questions (going off topic).
Generalization and value judgements.
Key takeaway: Do what works for you!
